Acts1:8 8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”
A value to me in raising my children as a young mother was to always encourage my kids to participate in what it means to serve in the church and in their community. I felt so connected in our church raising my kids and it was a great place where other men and women of God were influencing my children in their purpose and their calls.
My heart’s desire was always to see my children to grow into themselves, each one so unique and different in their own way. One of the heartbeats of our church is missions and outreach both local and abroad. I had the privilege to experience various outreaches and mission trips with my children over the years.
I so clearly remember the day, I received a call from my oldest son Payton as he was in the inner cities of Atlanta at the Atlanta Dream Center. It was a short-term mission trip where he worked with the homeless people on the streets, feeding them and praying over them. It was after his freshman year of college and he was on a journey of trying to figure out what his life should look like as he was just feeling completely unfulfilled…
When he called me he said with such excitement “Mom I know what I was created for! ” I said “what Payton?” and he said “I’m called to love the unlovely” and at that moment I knew that Payton had found his mission field in the streets, evangelizing to people in broken situations and being the hands and feet of Jesus! That began an adventurous journey that has transformed him into the amazing man of God he is today. God’s promise to me as a young mother over Payton which I shared in my book “His Promise 20 Years Later” was, “Raise him to share my word and I will bless your child.”
I’m so excited to share with you that I’ve invited Payton to be a guest blogger on my website.
I’m sure you’re going to get some of his amazing testimony and much of his journey on how God has brought him to where he is today. You will get to hear, as I have, about the incredible journeys, funny stories, interesting opportunities and see some of his captivating photography and film that documents his many travels. You will hear about many different stages of his life, as a son, student, staff member, and full-time missionary. I know he will captivate your heart, as he shares with authenticity from his own!
God bless you – Candra
