Whoever walks with the wise becomes wise, but the companion of fools will suffer harm.
I was reminded this week as I was having coffee with a girlfriend, The effect of the influences in our life.
Did you know there are three main things that influence our lives…
- Our association – that would be the people that we associate with, hang out with, that influence us
- The books we read, the teachings that we listen to, the TV that we watch and the music that we listen.
- Life experiences – like business, personal, family, crisis, trauma, or celebration
Of the three mentioned, your association with People will be the most influential in your life. Think about it, Jesus warned us in 1 Corinthians 15:33 Do not be deceived: “Bad company ruins good morals.” (ESV) A girlfriend once said to me, if it looks like a duck, quacks like a duck, has feathers like a duck, it’s a duck!! I used to laugh at this, however so simple yet so true. The more I mentor and observe people I recognize that those that you hang around with, truly influence who you become. I have to heard myself saying many times “you may need to change your circle of friends.” Yikes not so easy but important!
It takes a lot to stand on your own feet and be your own person. We all want to feel included, to be seen, to be of value to people… And that’s great as long as those around you are building you up to your destiny and not tearing you down to your demise.
Proverbs 27:17 ESV Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another.
I was talking with my husband today about this very topic and I was sharing that I’m blessed to have a few close friends who I can trust with my heart, who I know will always speak truth to me, and will hold everything we discuss in confidence. They are my circle of influence and we are all working toward being the very best person we can be, while holding each other up, being real people, experiencing a real God, in the real world, that holds lots of real challenges!
Proverbs 13:20 ESV Whoever walks with the wise becomes wise, but the companion of fools will suffer harm.
So here’s your challenge for this blog, who are the people that are influencing you?
Are they influencing you in a way that you are living the life God intended for you and that you deserve with fullness, love, peace, joy, kindness, hope and purpose and so much more?
If not what needs to change?
I pray great blessing over you, that you would find fullness in your relationships, and that God would send people to surround you who would partner with you in your journey to becoming all that God intended for you as you fulfill your destiny!
Sending tons of love – Candra!
